Hi All,I have a package, that runs successfully and completes the requirement without any issues.I ran the same package on other developer machine and works as expected, no issues. But when running the same package pinting to the same location from where i have run the package, i am getting the below error.' Columns '.' and '.'

cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.' This happens when it is loading to the oracle db table. The column in the db is varchar2(20) and the source is from data conversion. I am converting the column to unicode since it is expecting the db column as unicode.
May 30, 2019 Hey guys & gals: A small bug with an easy work around for now via Windows 10 1809+ with the following error. 'After Effects error: Could not convert Unicode characters.
I am using OraOLEDB provider for connection to Oracle. Can anyone suggest or guide how i can troubleshoot or solve this. Varchar2(20) is not a Unicode datatype, but you converted the corresponding column in the package to a unicode (text presumably). Such a conversion is not legal. Because if you have a character outside the ASCII range in the input you will loose itsrepresentation. In short, unless you really have Unicode chars, that I think you don't because you've used a data conversion transformation you need to rather use the non-unicode text e.g.
DTSTR.ArthurYes i agree with you. When i have an OLEDB source that connects to the table. I look for the datatype of the same column, it shows as unicode. So i hade to use data conversion to change from unicode to string and then apply my logics and then while loadingback, i again used data conversion to convert back from string to Unicode so it can load in the table. WHICH WORKED GOOD AS EXPECTED (i ran this from BIDS on my system). But when the same pkg is ran from sql agent pointing to the same location where i had the package developed or saved.
It throws the error.Any ideas?? Question is in both the cases is it pointing to same table? DO you've a local copy of table for local development and server copy which it points to while executing from sql agent. It may even be that your default schema is different from default schemato which sql agent creates and populates the table.I dont see any files involved in explanation above or else even that can be a problemSo basic check you need to do is to ensure it points to same set of objects with same data while executing from job compared to when executed in BIDSPlease Mark This As Answer if it helps to solve the issue Visakh - https://www.facebook.com/VmBlogs. You supposed to convert to non-Unicode and leave it as is to satisfy the receiving end.Arthur. Then how come i am able to run the same package without any changes from BIDS?
Hi Venky,Does the data source changed when you run the package via a job? Have you implemented package configurations for the package which may cause the data source or destination change? If the source table changed and includes Unicode characters, the Unicode characterswon’t be loaded to the VARCHAR2 column in the Oracle database.Besides, you can check the SSIS package logging to find out which component/transformation threw the error message, the Data Conversion transformation or the Oracle OLE DB Destination component. This can tell us whether the data conversion issue occurredduring the data transformation or data loading.Regards,Mike YinIf you have any feedback on our support, please clickMike YinTechNet Community Support. I have configured the same connection in my config file.As of now i have only one database.I have enabled the logging, from the logs i notice that it is failing in the data flow tas but doesnt provide which container in data flow task. But looking from code and exception info, i figured that it is failing while loading the data into table. I can confirm this since the error message shows the column name and that column is used to load the data to table after converting to unicode.
Hi Arthur,I have developed the package on the server itself.I have created the package on the server and saved it there itself. But i use BIDS installed on my desktop and then from there i point to that server. The packagae is ran from the sql agent on that server itself.it points to the same dtsx file.I still feel it can be different schemasReason is account that sqlagent uses is different from what you use when run remotely using BIDS. So first thing to check is whether your account and sqlagent account (or account that job is configured to use) has the same default schema. Please Mark This As Answer if it helps to solve the issue Visakh - https://www.facebook.com/VmBlogs. This is a brand new db that is not created anywhere else.
